For 20 years, Shawn Fitzgerald has represented individuals facing criminal charges throughout Eastern Iowa, bringing extensive courtroom experience, careful preparation, and a determined approach to every case.
Shawn is a partner at Fitzgerald, Klesner, & Pavelich, PLC, in Iowa City, where his practice is focused on criminal defense. Since beginning his legal career in 2005, he has represented more than 1,000 clients facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
His experience encompasses a broad range of criminal matters, including:
- OWI/DUI
- Domestic violence and violations of no-contact orders
- Drug offenses, including possession and possession with intent to deliver
- Sex offenses, including allegations of rape and sexual abuse
- Burglary, theft, and other property crimes
- White-collar offenses, including embezzlement and fraud
Shawn also has substantial experience representing University of Iowa students and other college students confronting criminal charges and potential academic or disciplinary consequences arising from allegations such as underage drinking and public intoxication.
Before joining Fitzgerald, Klesner, & Pavelich, PLC, Shawn practiced with David Goldstein and Associates, LLC, in Chicago, Illinois. During law school, he clerked with Daley and George, Ltd., also in Chicago.
He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 2005, following his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa in 2002.
